I told the Lord, I’ll go anywhere, I’ll do anything – just put me where You want me
And so, when He called, I went
And I did things I’d never done
Taught English in a classroom without lightbulbs or heating
Lived in a tent on the side of a mountain
Carried rocks and sand to make cement for a new house in a village that trucks couldn’t reach
Hiked for an hour in the mountains to visit homes and pray for strangers-turned-friends
Sat in rocky dirt until my legs went numb, because that’s where kids wanted me to sit with them
Held hands covered in dirt and tears
Let my hair get braided and braided and braided by little kids
Presented a cake-baking lesson at a kids’ carepoint, with over a dozen onlookers
Danced on stage and sang on stage during different church services in different countries
Prayed in a church made of no more than crooked wood posts and rusty sheet metal
Raked compost and planted green beans while listening to conversations in a language I had no comprehension of
Danced in a city park with strangers made friends
Sat on a broken bucket to join a church service in a town dump
Taught and explained English idioms and common sayings to a roomful of ESL learners
Had conversations in so many coffee shops
Ate meals where I had no idea what I was actually eating
Hosted minute-to-win-it games for a college orientation (no, really)
Prayed for healing in a Southeast Asian McDonald’s late at night
Served as a human jungle gym for orphaned and fostered kids
Soaked my clothes with sweat and rain from working outside in inescapable high heat and humidity
Researched and drafted curriculums
Ate fresh-cooked food sitting on mats around a fire in 90 degree weather
Danced to kids’ worship songs in other languages
Decorated dorm rooms for a Christian youth camp held in a majority-Buddhist country
Sat in on a Bible study held under a lofted house in a village
Sang worship karaoke on a cross-country bus ride
Checked in with friends from other countries while being in still other countries
Talked with guides and visitors at temple grounds
Played with kids in a village before watching the Jesus film with them via a projector
Prayed for people on the street
Hugged strangers like they were friends
Faltered and failed in speaking different languages
Walked on cobblestone streets and dirt roads, broken sidewalks and narrow country paths
Smiled at people on streets I’d never see again – and received smiles in return
Prayed and worshiped for hours in countries foreign to me – on rooftops and balconies, in offices and hotel rooms, in open fields and on beaches
Packed all my belongings into a couple of bags every few weeks to do it all over again
Spent hours upon hours in planes, cars, trucks, vans, buses, tuktuks – all to get to places I never thought I’d ever see with my own eyes or step into with my own feet, even places I didn’t know existed
But I told the Lord I’d go anywhere, so I did
I told the Lord I’d do anything, so I did
And He did put me where He wanted me
So now I just want to live that all my days
Because there’s truly nothing better than living with hands completely open to the Father and His will
Working with the Lord in His harvest field, from His love and for His glory.
